Emerald Exotics Reptile Encounters
The session will be held in a cleared space above the main shop, which will be set up specifically for the purpose. We will provide seats for the adults to sit on and encourage young children to sit quietly on floor mats. Could you please wear clothes that cover the legs and arms to avoid unlikely scratching of the skin.
There will be an introduction on what you can expect from the session so there are no great surprises i.e. you are prepared for the animals, and to inform how we expect the children to behave e.g. talk quietly. A very controlled and peaceful encounter is best for the animal and the public. We would also ask in advance if there were any animals that you did not wish to encounter e.g. a tarantula.
The session will be educational with the animal being shown and information being given on its origin, how it is looked after etc. Depending on the animal, as to whether or not they will be allowed to hold it or whether it will just roam around the floor for them to touch: This depends solely on the size of it rather than on its temperament.
Steve Miles (owner of Emerald Exotics) who will be the main presenter, is very experienced in working with reptiles, after spending a few years at the Cotswold Wildlife Park as well as having numerous reptile pets of his own. 1 or 2 helpers will also be present to help handle the animals and to oversee the session.
All animals used will be considered ‘safe’ to be used for these sessions. A lot of them are Steve’s pets and are used to being handled.
Use of Plastic goggles is necessary during the handling of any spider, to avoid any possibility of hairs entering the eyes. We will provide these.
We will allow photos to be taken by yourselves with your own camera equipment. If you have a photo that you wish to display on the shop website then please feel free to email a copy to us.
Antiseptic hand wash or wipes will be provided throughout the session, particularly at the beginning before handling the reptiles and again at the end after handling the reptiles.
Please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time – being late may impact on following sessions.
If you have any further questions please contact Steve on 01993 700556.
